2024Telegram bot that reads ABA and ACLEDA bank SMS notifications and logs every payment automatically.
A small business owner I know was tracking every payment in a notebook — manually copying amounts from SMS notifications she received from ABA and ACLEDA bank. She was doing this for dozens of transactions a day.
PayTrackBot reads those SMS notifications, parses the payment details (amount, sender, reference number, timestamp), and logs everything to a Google Sheet automatically. She gets a clean record with no manual entry.
The hardest part was the SMS parsing — the bank message formats aren't consistent and change occasionally. I wrote a set of regex patterns that cover the most common formats and added a fallback for unrecognised messages so nothing gets silently dropped.
The bot runs 24/7 on a cheap VPS. Total cost: a few dollars a month.
